WorldSBK: Changes to Regulations for 2016

Thursday, 28 April 2016 09:50 GMT

The Superbike Commission made the following changes to the 2016 FIM Superbike & Supersport World Championships and Superstock 1000cc Cup Regulations

The Superbike Commission composed of Messrs Javier Alonso (WorldSBK Executive Director), Takanao Tsubouchi (MSMA Representative), Rezsö Bulcsu (FIM CCR Director) in the presence of Messrs Daniel Carrera & Gregorio Lavilla (Dorna) and Paul Duparc (FIM) in a meeting held in Jerez (ESP) on 22 April, made the following changes to the 2016 FIM Superbike & Supersport World Championships and Superstock 1000cc Cup Regulations:

Effective Immediately

SBK Practice restrictions:

The spirit of the Regulations are very clear on the point that riders/teams participating to other FIM World Championships (MotoGP, Endurance) will not be affected provided that their participation in these championships are real and not an excuse to test the SBK machines.

The SBK Commission members agree unanimously to clarify the practice restrictions in SBK so that the riders participating in the complete event of another FIM World Championship are not affected by the SBK practice restriction rules.

Jump Start Penalties:

In the case where the organisers have been unable to impose a ride through penalty during the course of the race then the rider affected will be subject to a time penalty. The actual penalty will be determined by Race Direction to reflect the typical time lost due to a ride through at the circuit of the particular race. This information will be made available before the race.

For practical reasons it has been decided to remove the requirement that all jump starts must be notified within the first four laps. However, Race Direction is still required to notify teams and riders as soon as possible.

Engine sealing – Engine usage information:

The SBK Commission members approved unanimously to publish the engine usage information following the completion of the fourth event of the World Superbike Championship (for all classes) at all rounds.

Start procedure (all classes):

The SBK Commission members approved unanimously to change the start procedure, for all classes, as follows:

At the 3 minutes board (Art - 1.18.1.10)

Generators must be disconnected and removed from grid.

• There must be a maximum of two mechanics plus the person holding the umbrella.

At the 1 minute board (Art - 1.18.1.11).

  • Tyre warmers and stands must have been removed from motorcycles on the grid or in the pitlane.
  • Should any teams cause a delay to the starting procedure then penalties may be inflicted.
